Where did we get the word BACON?
The word bacon has been traced to originate from several words being combined and veering from several countries. The first word, "bako" was a French originating word. The second is a German word called, "bakkon" and the last is an Old Teutonic word called, "backe". These all refer to, "back of the pig" and all come from around the 12th century. However, near the 16th century England created the word, "bacoun" which just meant all pork in general. It wasn't until the 17th century that "bacon" began to be used to refer to all salted and smoked pork that we now recognize as bacon.
